I know for years, I have put a lot of time, energy, and money into backing up all of my information from my computer onto discs. I know that this hasn’t been the most effective method of saving my business information, but it has been one that I thought would be more dependable in case something were to happen with my computer. However, after reading an online backup review for this Mozy online backup system, I decided to give them a try. Initializing my account with them, and getting everything started has been so easy, not to mention the fact that I don’t have to waste a bunch of time copying discs anymore. This is great!

Computer Recovery Day

• Half of my “My Documents” folder is gone. Begin slight panic.
• Calm down, remember that I’ve got Mozy. Backups are GOOD.
• Begin trying to recover files from Mozy. Because only half of my stuff is gone, I have to go through and select what to restore manually, by hand. Mozy is not the fastest program in the world, so this takes some time.
• Begin the arduous process of restoring files from Mozy.
• [Many, many hours pass.]
• Mozy’s not super-fast at restoring files (and it doesn’t help that I had it set to throttle back its bandwidth usage during the work day – oops!) but it gets the job done. Thank goodness for backups!

Mozy Backup Review

I highly recommend Mozy to any and all of my readers. As a fellow coder there is no worse feeling then losing your code that you have worked on very hard and built up over the years. Or losing any of the precious moments that you have in your digital photo albums. Having a good backup plan is important in this day and age and Mozy is the right solution for the Home user.
Pros:

* Software is very user-friendly and customizable at the same time.
* Automatically backs up all your files, with no user intervention.
* Very small memory footprint, so it will work on most if not all machines from Year 2000 on.
* Unlimited storage for only $4.95
* Their customer support is top notch.
* Works on Vista 32-bit, Vista 64-bit, Windows XP, Windows 2000

Cons:

* If you’re on dial up or a slow internet connection, backups could take weeks.
* Does not work with Mac OS X or Linux

Mozy Pro

If you are a business user I recommend trying Mozy Pro, in addition to everything I listed above, it has some additional features useful to businesses like a great service that has the ability to backup SQL Server, Exchange Server, as well as your File Servers. If I ever have the chance or the need to try Mozy Pro I will be sure to do a review.

Mozy Backups

After years of using external hard drives and all sorts of other backup schemes for my computers I took the plunge and decided to give Mozy a try. This site is a good summary of the service. I gave up thinking I could be a reliable support service for my own computers. First I switched to using Google Mail when it first came out. I admit that much of the decision was based on the functionality I saw in their calendar and the way it integrated with email. So, we have used Gmail and Google Calendar for years now and have been extremely happy with it. I won’t go into all of the reasons because this post is about Mozy. You can read the excellent review of the service at this site. I’ll post more about my use of this service as time goes on. Our two computers, a Mac and a PC, are in the initial backup stage right now. That is a bit time consuming but once the first backup is completed all others are incremental so that they should take only a short time. I was satisfied with the security and privacy protections at Mozy.

Computing Again

My computer has been reborn, more or less.  There’s a new hard drive and more memory, new operating system.  Same old everything else, except that I need to reload the files I have backed up off site (thank you Mozy!) and then we’ll send the old hard drive somewhere to see if my email files can be saved.  Everything else was being backed up, but my preferred email software isn’t Outlook, and it wasn’t part of the daily backups.

Keep Business Data Safe With Online Backup Through Mozy

My sister and I run a small fiber arts business from out of our home. We work through the Internet to provide our clients with fantastic fiber arts knowledge, and we also teach several online classes. Because we are so prone to viruses and hacking through the net, we have made certain that all of our files and data have been backed up, by purchasing Mozy’s wonderful online backup solutions. This has saved our bacon more than on one affair. We had a minor electrical fire in our home office and lost all of our PCs! We did have to replace them, but thank heaven the data was safe with Mozy!

Mozy Online Backup – User Review 3/5/09

Mozy is one of the few companies that offers a totally free service as well (but it is limited to 2 gigabytes). With a rich web interface to monitor and restore your back-up files Mozy is easily the best company to use when looking for remote file storage and back-up.

Online storage, five of the best..

Finally for Mozy, the website is set out well, and as far as ease of use is concerned, it very user friendly. There is a choice of encryption on the server, so all files will be safe from prying eyes.
